For Teacher Appreciation Week, we asked our students to share a few words about our hardworking core instructors – Jim Edgar, Melissa Hutchison, and Pam Lorence. Without fail, our community of students eagerly showed up to help us celebrate these instructors and more. Check out what they had to say above and below!
Jim Edgar was so knowledgeable, considerate, and thoughtful in his teaching. I thoroughly enjoyed learning from him as he has experience in the VO field.
Sally! What can I say? An absolute delight, her natural enthusiasm carries over to her teaching. She too is knowledgeable about the nuances of VO.
Pamela Lorence! I had her for my narration, and she’s engaging, helpful, and really gives out helpful insights in how to navigate the narrative stories. I am so lucky to have experienced all these wonderful teachers! I hope to work with them again soon!
Clay Robeson was my first improv instructor and probably the best introduction I could have had to learn improvisation and getting out of my head. Clay has even improvised lesson plans on the spot that translate directly to the booth and how to create from nothing.
I will be using Clay's teachings and examples for many years to come..... then I'll probably get tired of it and improvise something else.
I <3 Voice One Teachers!
Sally - thank you for directing a fantastic school and always providing such helpful guidance for all of us as we make our way through our voice over journey! I appreciate all you do in investing in the growth of each and every student you meet.
Jim - I’m extremely grateful and excited whenever I get to take a class of yours. Your feedback is so brilliant, and I always have a lightbulb moment in your class (there’s a pun there if you squint). Thank you for all your insight and for making classes so entertaining!
Melissa - I need to take more of your classes! You are a wonderful instructor and I always leave your classes with a smile on my face, wishing it wasn’t over. I can’t wait to take more classes from you. Thank you for all you do and all the insight you bring!
To all the amazing teachers at Voice One-Thank You for the guidance and inspiration! I am so grateful. The energy and knowledge you all bring is such a gift and I feel so lucky to learn with you all!!!
I think one of the main reasons I have pursued narration is because of the excellent guidance from Pam Lorence. She has been so encouraging and motivating. Thank you thank you thank you Pam Lorence, for everything!!!
Many thanks and lots of praise, to and for, my current teachers Pamela and Jim who SO expertly convey their skills and wisdom on their students in an-oh-so patient and kind way. I know this cannot be easy in the least but you both make it look that way. Thank you, thank you, thank you and lots of gratitude!
I want to shout out my great appreciation for Jim Edgar. Whenever I have worked with him he has been thorough and informative on his subject matter, accommodating and helpful to everyone in the class, and also just fun to be around :) Thanks so much, Jim, for all you do!!
I've had the privilege of taking most of my classes with Sally Clawson. I'm amazed at Sally's ability to provide focused guidance for everyone in class. I've seen growth in my VO skills in every class and have taken away things to work on to continue to improve outside of class. Thank you for providing an amazing VO education!
I wanted to share my thoughts/compliments on Pam Lorence. I have take several classes with Pam and she has made the voice over journey so much fun. Her real world experience and feedback during classes is priceless. She always shows up with such positivity that it’s contagious. How can you not enjoy the learning experience with such a great instructor. Kudos to Pam and to Voice One for sharing her with us students.
"So many of us spend our time worrying about failing. Worrying doesn't solve anything; it just intensifies anxiety. So instead of letting the fear of failure keep us from reaching our dreams, we need to turn that energy into positive action. And remember a failure is not the end of all things. In the voice-over industry, failure and rejection are just part of the overall experience. Use your experience as a foundation for future successes. We must continue to keep growing, personally and professionally."
- Angela Castonguay
I thought of each and everyone of you and the other instructors when I read this quote. Topaz just wanted to say, " Thank you a million times for making the possible possible for myself and others. Also for your hours of outstanding expertise and efforts are EPICALLY GOLDEN!!!!!!" Much appreciated!!! Keep Winning you all are Champions!!
Sally - We love you Mama Sally! Eternally grateful for all you do for all of us. How you do it all, we'll never know.
Jim - Jim is one of the most generous teachers I have ever had. His passion and honesty is so inspiring. I feel fortunate to have him as a mentor and look forward to learning from him for years to come.
Pam - Every time I took a class with Pam I felt like I was going home. She is wildly supportive, incredibly warm and full of knowledge.
Melissa - Crazy talented, humble and gracious--the dream teacher.
Jim: "An Excellent coach is hard to fine, difficult to part with, and IMPOSSIBLE to forget!!!" when I read this I thought about Jim right away.😊❤ He also is Generous with his time, Easy to understand, smart, thoughtful, Exciting, passionate and above all Safe to work with and more importantly you grow as an actor when you study with him. Thank you so much for allowing me a small platform to let you and others know how special Jim Edgar is for me and I'm sure countless others.
Jim Edgar's abilities as a teacher bring his lessons beyond the classroom. He teaches, both explicitly and through example, one of the hardest things: How to look first at the positives, then make small, explicit changes for the next take. As someone who is very self-critical, having to find something about each take that I liked was one of the most challenging things I've done, and is something I'm trying to work into other aspects of my life. Thank you, Jim. It was a privilege to have you as an instructor.
Right off the bat, Sally makes you feel welcome and assures you that there are no wrong answers. I really gravitated towards her warmth (and perfect. diction. 😂).
She's a beacon of positivity, and I find myself very fortunate to have taken class with her; so much so, that I refer to her as my 'Fairy Voicemother' 😊 Thank you, Sally! We adore you!♥️
I always had an interest in Voice Over but it was after taking the beginner bundle classes with Sally Clawson, Jim Edgar, Pam Lorence, and Danny Scott that I fell in LOVE with VO. I appreciate each of you. Thank you for sharing your passion, experience, time, patience, humor to help your students build a treasure chest of skills and knowledge along our VO journey.
I would like to convey my thanks to JIM EDGAR for helping me with effective techniques of editing audio files to record narrations and audiobooks efficiently. I signed up for a private lesson with Jim on editing using Audacity application. It was easy to schedule and the steps in the lesson were very well organized. The review of the deliverables and demonstrations of several useful editing techniques using Audacity & OcenAudio were very helpful. He is very knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. Because of Jim’s help, time taken for my recording and editing cycles have reduced substantially. I am very grateful for Jim Edgar’s help and recommend him highly to any other VO students.
